Well, we did it. We drove all the way to Prince George, British Columbia with no mishaps. Our hotel was easy to find and the bed comfortable…as hotel beds go. We plan to sleep well.
It’s morning now. We want to get an early start. The drive to Prince Rupert is longer by an hour or two than yesterday. We go about our morning rituals of scratching, going, showering, shaving, brushing and checking e-mail.
What’s this?! A message from the AMHS, the “ferry” people. It says the road to Prince Rupert has not only flooded due to unseasonably excessive rains but there is also a mudslide between us and the one turn-off we might have used to come in from the back way. A quick call to AMHS, a rebooking from Bellingham on the 8th and off we go, again, back the way we came, to do what we wanted to avoid. Oh well, away we go. |

Finally, we head North! Newer motor in the Suburban; it’s running fine. Becky is driving the van, holding up like a trooper. It takes 2 ½ days to get to Tacoma but we arrived. We are reporting to our last supporting church this furlough. We had a great time of fellowship, attended a blessing of a fellowship meeting and we are ready to do some Sam’s Club shopping. We take the van to Bellingham to place it on the ferry because it is $1500 less expensive to drive the Suburban and trailer through Canada than to put it on the ferry in Washington. We leave the 6th for Prince George, the half way point to Prince Rupert where the ferry awaits for our last leg of this journey. |

We have often written of our daughters, Nila and Heather. We’ve written of how we miss them, how we love them and how we covet every opportunity to see them. When Becky and I knew we had some time in California (open dates between churches in the area) we searched for and found greatly priced tickets from Kansas City, MO to Ontario, CA. This being the last chance to spend any time with them before hitting the field we just couldn’t pass that up. Out they came. What a great time we had.

Here is Nila making a serious shopping decision.
We long for January when they can fly up for a week or so before their Spring semester starts. |

A morning like a thousand other began just as did all the others. This day would be different. We, Becky and myself, began our final push West. We are headed to California. After California we head North, North to our home, North to our calling. This day, however, will not go as we might have chosen. We left Flagstaff with full intentions of making it to Bellflower where we would spend almost a week. 40 or so miles inside California, past the border, past the border patrol check point and past Needles, California in the stifling heat of a merciless sun our Suburban engine throws a rod, leaving a tell-tale stain on the shoulder of the freeway.
While this was not our plan, it was no surprise to the Lord. We have a provision in our insurance policy where towing is paid. They even called and found a repair shop. Since we were driving two vehicles, we were able to leave the Suburban to get fixed, continue on to Bellflower and go back for the Suburban the next week. God’s people gave to meet the need of repairs so all it really cost us was time…which all belongs to the Lord any way.
It wasn’t in my plans but all His plans work for good. |

It has been a long time since I have had enough internet to put together an update. Since my last update much has happened. We've been in a snow storm in Amarillo, later we had the tornados and bad storms miss the town we were in while in a missions conference in the panhandle.
Since then we have been to New Mexico and Arizona visiting new churches and making new friends. We head for California tomorrow. We will be there for a few weeks. We will, however, be back in Alaska on June 9th. Yes, that's right! We will be returning to our field. Okay, it'll be at 2:00 A.M. when the ferry docks but that's besides the point. We will be home!
Let me share with you some exciting news. We have been praying for and asking folks to pray for the church planting ministry we will be starting. We have been raising funds for the purchase of a boat to give us a means of traveling to the villages in Southeast Alaska. Well, to date, we have had come in $47,000! Yep, we are only 3 thousand away from our goal of $50,000. Praise the Lord! We are quite excited about this. We could have this minisry started by summer's end. Again, we praise the Lord for providing what He has and for the doors He has opened. |
