Dear Pastor and Praying Friends, June, July 2008
Summer is in full swing. The fish are biting...and so are the bugs. Here is a picture of a 150 lb. halibut we caught on our subsistence gear. It will make a good dent in our empty freezer.
The months of May and June were filled with activity. We enjoyed the proud moment of our oldest daughter graduating from BBC. We moved her to her new home where she will soon to begin nursing school. We spent time with our youngest daughter, Becky’s family and my parents. It was good to see them all.
As we mentioned before, since John Warrick broke his arm, the doctors would not allow him to do what was necessary to get moved up without help. The Lord allowed me to be a part of their very first “going to the field” experience. We loaded the moving truck in Kansas, drove it to Seattle where we unloaded it, reloaded the goods into a container to be put on the barge and drove to Bellingham to catch the ferry. It was an adventure.
I am, however, excited to say that the Warricks are now on the field! They are unpacking and settling in nicely. We wasted no time though breaking them in. We began with a day camp/VBS here in Wrangell. John taught the lessons and Jody lead the singing. They did great and are both well cut out for ministry up here.
A missions group from Calvary Baptist Church, Rittman, OH, came up and we put them to work helping us finish the day camp. We all then headed to Craig on Prince of Wales Island to do a three day VBS for another independent Baptist Church there. We saw a high of 19 kids in Wrangell with one salvation and a high of 56 kids in Craig with three salvations. The group from Ohio was a great blessing. We could not have done what we did without them.
While on P.O.W. we passed out some John/Romans in Hydaburg and drove to Naukati (a law-less little town on the west coast of the island). Oh, how these people need the Lord! Please pray that the Lord lead us and the Warricks to where we are most needed.
At the end of July we are taking a survey excursion to the only Reservation in the state of Alaska. It is called Metlakatla and is populated mainly by Tsimshian Indians. Again, please pray for the Lord’s leading and for open doors.
I’m asking for the Lord’s leading these many times for a very specific reason. Diesel fuel is now $5.41 a gallon. With this and the restructuring of our personal and ministry support and the subsequent rise in our taxes withheld we cannot at this time afford to operate the boat as we intended. We are essentially priced out of this ministry. There is some supplemental technology that could cut our fuel consumption enough to make the boat affordable. We are looking into this. If the boat ministry has to wait, we still need to be about the Lord’s business. There are too many lost people needing the Gospel. Please pray that the Lord lead us where He would have us go.
